Our own chasen. Hand-cut from a single piece of bamboo, 100 fine prongs that whisk matcha into a smooth, lasting foam. The traditional way.
How to whisk
- Wet the prongs in warm water before use to soften them.
- Hold the handle, never the prongs.
- Whisk briskly in a W or M motion, not in circles. 20 to 30 seconds.
- Rinse, shake off the water, air-dry on the box it came in.
How to bloom
When you first open it, place your whisk in water at around 80°C for 10 to 15 minutes. This softens the prongs and helps them hold their shape.

Dry in the box, prongs up
Stand the chasen back inside the cardboard box it came in, prongs facing up. The shape holds and the bamboo stays protected between uses.

Swap when it droops
A chasen lasts six to twelve months with daily use. Replace it when the prongs lose their spring.
