I had been using a mass-produced chasen for my matcha at home but I had seen a few people online say it's worth investing in a proper chasen if you want to create good micro foam etc when whisking, I was a bit dubious as this one is a lot more expensive than the mass produced but as soon as I used it I was genuinely very impressed with how much better my matcha turned out. This whisk allows you to get a lot nicer foam and overall the shape/design is a lot better for whisking, far better than the cheap ones and I'm glad I spent the extra for something decent! It also fits on to my chasen-yasume a lot nicer, the tines all loop around the curve at the bottom and the middle retwists at the end the same as when it was new. Very happy and highly recommend this!

Such a great matcha powder! I bought the Hikari too and while I loved that one also, Shogun is exactly what I look for in matcha. It is definitely in my top 5 now, there's so much depth to this one. I love a strong matcha and this one has it all. It's roasty, nutty and holds flavour and sweeteners (I use honey) so well in milk, whereas I find that some matcha powders tend to get a bit lost in milk and so I end up having to use a lot more than I want to. I used 1.5 tsp of Shogun whereas I end up having to use 2 tsp for other brands. It is flavourful and satisfying in an iced latte with low bitterness and astringency and the umami really comes through. The colour is also a beautiful deep, vibrant green and sifts very easily and has a great microfoam albeit slightly runny. As an usucha, it is pretty strong but again, so much depth and flavour. I would definitely buy this one again - I wish there was an option for a bigger size too!

It's softer and sweeter than Shogun with mild umami which makes this one lovely as an everyday staple. The colour, like Shogun is a deep vibrant green and the powder sifts and whisks very easily. One small note, I would personally prefer if the powders were stored in a tin with a ring pull as I feel like it gets a bit messy trying to get the powder out of the packet and I end up losing some of it!

It did foam up OK even though it wasn't done properly. And the colour presents well from the packet.I would recommend looking into how to make this tea properly, as there is enjoyment and benefit to be gained from this. In a rush, I use a small metal whisk in a cup - add a little water around 80 degrees, whisk it till it gets a bit foamy - then add a little more water.I have yet to acquire a full ceremonial set - but there is something rewarding about doing so.
