焙じ茶·ROASTED GREEN TEA·UJI

Hōjicha - First Harvest 30g

Roasted, nutty, low in caffeine.

Roasted green tea, milled to a fine powder for whisking. First-harvest tencha, the same leaf as our matcha, is slow-roasted until the colour shifts from green to a deep amber, which mellows any edge and brings out a toasty, nutty sweetness. Naturally low in caffeine and built for evenings.

  • Ceremonial grade, first harvest from Uji.
  • Milled monthly, packed weekly in London.
  • Clean, calm energy. No jitters, no sugar.

How to brew
  1. Sift 2g of Hōjicha into a warm bowl.
  2. Add 80ml of just-boiled water. Hōjicha takes the heat well.
  3. Whisk in a W or M motion for 15 to 20 seconds.
  4. Drink slow. The roast aroma is at its peak when steam is still rising.

FROM UJI · KYOTO

Slow-roastedto a deep amber.

Hōjicha is first-harvest tencha, the same leaf as our matcha, slow-roasted at around 180°C in a rotating drum until the colour turns from green to amber. Roasting caramelises the natural sugars and breaks down most of the catechins and caffeine, leaving a tea that is toasty, sweet, and easy to drink late in the day. After roasting, the leaves are milled into a fine powder for whisking.

FREQUENTLY ASKED

Questions, answered.

Is Hōjicha caffeine-free?
Not entirely. It is naturally low in caffeine. About a quarter of what you'd find in an equivalent bowl of matcha.
Can I make Hōjicha lattes?
Yes. The roast carries beautifully through milk. Use 2g matcha to 200ml warm milk.
How long does an opened tin stay fresh?
Roasted teas hold their character longer than matcha. Sealed and dry, an opened tin is good for around two months.
Is Hōjicha a good evening drink?
Yes. The low caffeine and soft, toasted flavour make it our most popular after-dinner tea.
Where is the tea shipped from?
We pack and ship every order from our London studio. Royal Mail 48 within the UK. Free on orders over £18.
